Can information influence the social insurance participation decision of China's rural migrants?

This paper uses a randomized information intervention to shed light on whether poor understanding of social insurance, both the process enrolling and costs benefits, drives relatively low rates participation in urban health insurance pension programs among China's rural-urban migrants. Among workers without contract, has strong positive effect and, younger age groups, programs. Migrants are responsive price: cities where premiums relative earnings, induces participation, while declines observed with high premiums.
